About International summer ballet camp Dancs-Piran
Dancs-Piran is a summer ballet camp that allows dancers to actively spend their summer and unite dance with holidays. The camp is suitable for ballet dancers with advanced basic knowledge of classical ballet and / or modern dance technique, ballet dancers who attend secondary or higher – academic level of ballet education and professional ballet dancers.
In 2024, Dancs-Piran will open its door for the 11th consecutive summer.
The International summer ballet camp lasts 14 days. Dancs-Piran offer participation in two different levels, either in Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet for pupils age 12 to 16, either Advance & Professional workshops of Classical ballet for pupils age 17 and Professional ballet dancers. Classes in both, Elementary advanced course and Advance & Professional workshops take place from Monday to Saturday. Every Saturday the Participants will present themselves at a public event – A Ballet concert. The first concert will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024 and the second – Final Dancs-Piran Ballet concert on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Both concerts will take place in Auditorij Portorož-Portorose . In addition to two Ballet concerts, the participants (if there are enough of them) will eventualy prepare also a full-length ballet performance or Divertissman, which will be scheduled on Friday, August 9, 2024. The work activities take place from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the latest, depending on the course or workshop. Sunday is a day off.
Participants also have time for different summer activities, and can spend evenings visiting different events in Piran.
In addition to the course and workshop, Dancs-Piran also offers accommodation and meals at a favorable price, as well as 24-hour care for minors.
A full-length ballet performance and two Dancs-Piran Ballet concerts also in 2024
As in 2022 and 2023, the participants of the International summer Ballet camp Dancs-Piran 2024 who will attend Advance & Professional workshop of Classical Ballet, as well as some participants of the Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet, will also prepare and perform a full-length ballet in 2024. This will beeither one of the popular classical ballets, or a full-length ballet performance consisting of various Divertissmans (the title will be announced at the start of Dancs-Piran 2024 and depending on the number of participants). The full-length ballet performance will be performed by those participants who will attend the International summer ballet camp Dancs-Piran 2024 in its full, this is in duration of two weeks. In full lenght Ballet perfortmance may be involved also some dancers who will attend International summer ballet camp Dancs-Piran 2024 in its second week only, depending on their technical and artistical abilities. Otherwise, the participants who will attend International summer ballet camp Dancs-Piran 2024 during only first or only second week of its duration, will actively participate in the preparations and rehearsals, but they will perform only in individual excerpts as a part of the Dancs-Piran ballet evenings, but not also in the full-length performance. In addition to the full-length ballet performance, there will be two more Dancs-Piran ballet evenings – Ballet concerts at the end of the first week of the summer ballet camp and at the end of the second week of the summer ballet camp.

Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet
The Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet is suitable for all ballet students from the first to the sixth grade, or for everyone with good basic knowledge of classic ballet technique. To attend Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet no point shoes knowledge is required.
Those who are interested to attend the Elementary advanced course of Classical ballet can apply for course on its full only. Course on its full includes:
Classical ballet class (1,5 hours daily)
Classical ballet technique (1,5 hours daily)
Choreographic workshop of Classical ballet – preparation for the performance (1x 1,5 hours daily)
Character dances (1x 1,5 hours daily)
Advance & Professional workshops of Classical ballet
Workshop is intended for Professional ballet dancers, students of ballet academies, students of ballet high schools and for students of higher – academic ballet educational institutions.
Due to a subsequent change of location due to force majeure, we have expanded the possibilities of attending the Advance & Professional Classical Ballet Workshop. So in 2024 you can choose between four different options.
Possibilities of participation in the Advance & Professional workshop of classical ballet:
Option 1:
Additional professional training of young ballet dancers – gaining stage experience*
Date of attendance:
July 19, 2024 – August 11, 2024
The first option includes:
Classical ballet training (1.5 hours daily)
Classical ballet repertoire workshop – ballet choir repertoire and solo ballet repertoire (1x 1.5 hours per day)*
Rehearsals for the performances of the Society of Ballet Artists of Slovenia
Additionally – individual applications: Workshop: variations, pas de deux… (1.5 hours per day) – the number of places is limited to max. 5 participants with each professor
* You are admitted to the Additional Professional Training of Young Ballet Dancers – Gaining Stage Experience on the basis of a video recording of a variation, duet, etc. In case that you are not accepted to the Additional professional training of young ballet dancers – gaining stage experience, you can decide to participate in one of the other options or cancel your registration.
Option 2:
Classical ballet training only

The fourth option includes:
Classical ballet training (1.5 hours daily)
Workshop: variations, pas de deux… (1.5 hours per day) – up to max. 5 participants with each professor
For those who has a status of soloist or higher in the professional ballet companies:
When you are a soloist or principal in a Professional Ballet company you will be hesitated as a soloist in Workshop of classical ballet repertoire! (proof needed!)
* The Participants who will attend the Choreography Workshop of the Classical Ballet Repertoire – Ballet Choir Repertoire and Solo Ballet Repertoire as part of the Advance & Professional Classical Ballet Workshop will, in principle, practice both the Corps de Ballet and solo Ballet repertoire, which does not mean that they will be casted in the soloist roles also at the public presentation of the Full lenght ballet. At the public presentation of full lenght ballet performance or divertissement, regardless of whether they will be casted in Corps de Ballet or in soloist role, all participants who will attend Dancs-Piran 2024 in its full duration of 14 days will be included. Individual participants who will attend Dancs-Piran 2024 only in the second week may also perform at the discretion of the pedagogue. Otherwise, for those participants who will attend Dancs-Piran 2024 only in the first week or only in the second week of its duration it is considered that they will be included in all activities of the workshop, but they will only perform in individual excerpts from the performance in the programs of the first or second Ballet Evening Dancs-Piran 2024.
During the work process of the Choreographic Workshop of the Classical Ballet Repertoire: Corps de Ballet Repertoire and Solo Ballet Repertoire, the participants will be casted in both, solo and Corps de ballet roles during the rehearsals, but this does not mean that they will also be casted in solo roles for the public presentation of the full lenght ballet performance or Divertissements. Only those participants in whom the pedagogue recognizes a higher technical and artistic level of knowledge will perform solo roles at the public presentation. Nevertheless, assuming that their technical knowledge is sufficient, they will be able to perform in the excepts of solo roles in the programs of Ballet concerts of Dancs-Piran 2024.
The placament of the participants in the Corps de ballet (which row, more in front or more in the back, etc.) depends on several professional factors such as technical knowledge, coordination, high od participant, etc.).Therefore, the organizer does not guarantee in any case that the participant will be assigned, e.g. in the first row of the Corps de ballet.
** In the case of an optional selection in the scope of Classical Ballet Training and Workshop of Variations, Pas de Deux…, but not Choreographic Workshops of the Classical-Ballet Repertoire – Corps de Ballet repertoire and Solo Ballet Repertoire, registration for overnights at the Dancs Center is not possible, except in the case that vacancies become available after the deadline for applications. If the participant would like to book a stay at the Dancs center, they can register on the waiting list. The organizer will inform the applicants on the waiting list about possible free places after the deadline for applications.
For participants who register any of options that include the Workshop: Variations, Pas de Deux ... :
Participants of the Advance & Professional Workshop of Classical Ballet who also register for the Variations, pas de deux…workshop must register their own program (variation, solo, pas de deux, duet etc.). In the event that participants register a pas de deux, they must also state the name of their partner. If they do not have a partner, but would still like to practice the pas de deux (the possibility for this will only appear at Dancs-Piran 2024 itself, considering the number of registered dancers), they must also register a variation or solo in case the conditions they won’t exist for pas de deux work. Participants must register for the program before the start of the International Summer Ballet Camp Dancs-Piran 2024!

For participants of the Advance & Professional Workshop of Classical Ballet who choose the First Option
If you choose the First option of Advance & Professional Workshops of Classical Ballet, i.e. Additional professional training of young ballet dancers, which also includes participation in full-length ballet performances, which the Society of Ballet Artists of Slovenia will stage during the International Summer Ballet Camp Dancs-Piran 2024, if you are selected, you will be exempt from paying the registration fee for participation in in classical ballet training workshops and classical ballet repertoire workshops at Dancs-Piran 2024!
The Society of Ballet Artists of Slovenia (DBUS) offers those interested in participating in the Advance & Professional Workshop of Classical Ballet as part of its activities for the additional education of young ballet dancers, also the opportunity for those who wish to apply for possible participation in ballet performances, which will be DBUS staged during the International Summer Ballet Camp Dancs-Piran 2024. If you are selected to participate, you will be exempt from paying the registration fee for participation in the classical ballet training workshops and in the classical ballet repertoire workshops at Dancs-Piran 2024 (except for the Workshop : variations, pas de deux…), but in this case you must be in Piran at least 10 days before the start of Dancs-Pirana 2024. Although you will be exempted from the registration fee, you will cover all accommodation and food costs.

Where the International summer ballet camp Dancs-Piran takes place
Unlike previous years, the International Summer Ballet Camp Dancs-Piran 2024 will take place in the theatre Avditorij Portorož-Portorose (stage and halls), Senčna pot 8A, 6320 Portorož-Portorose, Slovenia.
For Participants who will be staying and/or eating in Portorož during the duration of the International Summer Ballet Camp Dancs-Piran 2024, accommodation and meals are organized in the Portorož Student Center, which is a 10-minute walk from the Avditorij Portorož-Portorose or vice versa. A local bus also drives from Avditorij Portorož-Portorose to the Student center Portorož dormitory and vice versa.
